While I do believe in a general sense that we must stand with our longtime ally Israel—and that includes tough love in getting Israel to end its occupation and settlement of Palestinian territory—this United Nations report of mass graves (“Mass graves in Gaza show victims’ hands were tied, says UN rights office“), including victims who had their hands tied and bodies stripped of clothes, is too disturbing to not have serious consequences (also see the New York Times article on this).
I, Brian Frydenborg as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate for Maryland, call on Israel to immediately allow an international independent investigation into these mass graves and I call on the Biden Administration to suspend all aid to Israel until this investigation is allowed to happen, is completed, and those responsible are held accountable. Before now, I had been wanting to condition U.S. aid to Israel carefully on compliance with international law, but as of this discovery, I feel we must immediately suspend all aid until those responsible are held accountable up and down the Israeli military hierarchy, including anyone who knew about this and did nothing to discipline what are clear war crimes.
I also call on all Americans who feel strongly about these issues to stand up against all forms of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, for Hamas to release all civilian hostages immediately, for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, for Hamas to rescind power and agree to give up power in exchange for leaving Gaza and live their lives in exile—one that includes renouncing any future violence or support for it—and for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign, and for a two-state solution to be committed to by all relevant parties.
I am the only candidate in this race with the level of international experience that I have, including living over five years in the Middle East and reporting and researching on the ground in Israel and Palestine. To learn more about my views on Israel and Palestine, see here.
Now is the time to raise my candidacy to be an integral part of this race, now is the time to spread the word, now is the time to donate to my campaign, now is the time to really get things going.
