Greetings dear supporters! We are a small but growing coalition here, and my second newsletter will focus on updating you about some of my first campaign activities.
Saturday, I attended a great event held by Indivisible Montgomery, an organization worth your interest run by Democrats fighting to preserve democracy in Maryland and the nation as a whole. I can tell from my interactions with them they have great people and great values, and after hearing some other great speakers, I was allowed to introduce myself to them in a brief speech (video here or at 1 hour, 56 minutes and 4 seconds below I am being introduced; the regrettable music is from a nearby event). One of the superstar Democrats in the in the U.S. House, my representative Jamie Raskin, was supposed to give the closing address but they were stuck with me because Jamie was busy working on the House floor to avoid a shutdown. Still, I made sure to touch on the theme of protecting our democracy against the Trumpist fascist threat presented by Trump and his MAGA Republicans.
Secondly, my first op-ed for my campaign was published today in the Frederick County Democrats’ newsletter, The Banner. It’s titled Ben Cardin’s Shoes Are Big Ones to Fill. We Need a Senate Candidate with a Deep Background on National and International Policy. That’s Me. and you can read it here on page 5!!
I am still working on putting out more policies as the only Democratic primary candidate with detailed policy proposals, namely capping credit card interest rates at 19.99% interest and reducing maternal and infant mortality, especially addressing the racial gap between white Americans and African-Americans, among other big policies coming your way on policing and criminal justice, education, and foreign policy. You can see my already-published policies (including my renter’s refundable tax credit/deduction) here!
All great things start somewhere, and my campaign has begin here. I need your help though, spread the word and please donate!
